Water and land directly affect our citizens every day. We interact with water in several ways: as storm water, drinking water, waste water, irrigation, and recreationally in rivers and streams. Similarly, we interact with land as it conveys water, provides foundation, and supplies nutrients. The quality of water and land are closely tied together and are two of the largest determinants to health and safety in the City. It is therefore important to protect, conserve, and continually seek to improve these valuable resources. To achieve this, we must make careful consideration to the impacts of our actions as individuals and as part of organizations at every interaction.
The City of Indianapolis is committed to improving the quality of our water and land through several programs and initiatives. Through education, action, and careful planning, these programs significantly improve the quality of our water and land in the City of Indianapolis and quality of life for all of its citizens.
Citizens can also do their part to improve the local water quality. Planting trees, creating rain gardens and installing rain barrels as well are just a few ways that you can positively impact our City’s water quality. Using Green Infrastructure as well as conserving water will go along way to improving our waterways.
