Bus
IndyGo, Indianapolis’s public transportation system, is provided by Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation. There are 29 fixed bus routes with close to 4,500 stops all around the city. The Green Line Downtown/Airport Express delivers non-stop service from the Indianapolis International Airport to Downtown Indianapolis daily from 5 AM – 9 PM. IndyGo also operates the Commuter Express, with service from Fishers and Carmel to Downtown daily. For more information click here.
IndyGo provides more than 8.5 million rides a year. Public transit systems play a vital role in ensuring that a sustainable environment exists for generations to come. On average a rider consumes one half the oil or gas he/she would consume if riding in an automobile. Along with gas savings, public transportation reduces the amount of greenhouse gas that enter the air. IndyGo provides freedom, opportunities and savings to Indianapolis citizens. More information on Directions can be found here.
Pedestrian Travel
As a requirement for receiving federal funds supporting airport, transit or highway improvements, each urbanized area with a population over 50,000 is required to have a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) charged with comprehensive transportation planning. Transportation planners from the City’s Department of Metropolitan Development make up the City’s MPO. For more information on the City of Indianapolis MPO, click here.
