City partners with Citizens Energy Group and Ball State College of Architecture and Planning to win a Sustainable Design Assistance Team award. This award is for the planning of a proposed Smart Growth Redevelopment District around 22nd Street and the Monon Trail. The area was selected because it contains potential stations along a proposed light rail system connecting downtown Indianapolis with surrounding suburbs and contains over 30 different brownfields, many of which are currently undergoing remediation.

Citizens Energy Group works with Indy Parks to "Continue the Dream" to improve Brookside Park facility. Citizens Energy Group employees will donate about 1,600 hours of volunteer service for a company-funded renovation project that will result in more than $50,000 worth of improvements to Brookside Park Family Center on Indianapolis' Near-Eastside in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

Work Force, Inc - Ex-Offenders assist in City's electronics recycling program.Work Force, Inc has two main missions. They participate in the cities reentry program for ex-offenders. They also provide a recycling source for electronics. This removes electronics from our landfills and aids the city in reaching it's goal to creating a more livable city.

Lilly Day of Service 2008. Lilly partnered with more than 50 local community organizations for this event. 8,400 Lilly employees volunteered planted 2,000 new trees and 6,000 other plants. The volunteers painted a half mile of murals, spruced up 16 medians, removed 24 acres of invasive vegetation, and built 140 panels for Habitat for Humanity. Lilly employees united with one common cause: to improve the communities in which we live and work.

The Campus Sustainability Initiative is an interdisciplinary coalition for sustainability programs at IUPUI. They are involved in the research, education, and implementation of sustainability, including renewable energy and fuel cells, environmental research, urban planning, greenways, and green building construction.
