The mission of the Green Commission is to:

  1. Monitor the City’s and County’s efforts regarding progress toward greater sustainability and a lighter environmental impact in the course of providing services to the community;
  2. Educate the public about environmental issues and sustainability in Indianapolis and Marion County; and
  3. Recommend to the Mayor potential policy changes to further the sustainability initiative within Indianapolis in the private sector.Tree Board

The mission of the Tree Board is to increase overall tree canopy coverage and quality within Marion County.

The Board has been directed to accomplish this mission through the following tasks:

  • Monitor the urban forest.
  • Provide tree-related educational opportunities.
  • Make recommendations to the Mayor of Indianapolis on the revision or creation of tree-related ordinances.
  • Make recommendations to local government agencies on potential tree-related policy revisions.

The Indianapolis Air Pollution Control Board is a nine member board responsible for enhancing and improving the air quality for the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana.

The Board membership is composed from the following professions: A professional engineer, registered in the State of Indiana; A physician, licensed in the State of Indiana; An attorney, admitted to the Indiana Bar; A member knowledgeable in solid waste disposal; A member knowledgeable in fuel technology and combustion; A member knowledgeable in process manufacturing; A member representing industry; A member representing labor; and A member representing the public at large. Five of the members are appointed by the Mayor of Indianapolis and four are appointed by the City-County Council. All members serve a four year term.

The Board holds public meetings on the second Thursday of each month.  The meetings are held in Room 107 of the City-County Building at 9:30 a.m.  Copies of the agenda can be requested from our office at 317-327-2234

Greenways Development Committee

The IGDC advises the City on all aspects of greenways development and operation. Its 15 volunteer citizen members are appointed in equal numbers by the Mayor, the City-County Council, and the Board of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Indianapolis Greenways Development Committee public meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, in the City-County Building Room 118 at 5 p.m.
