Composting
Yard trimmings and food residuals together constitute 24 percent of the U.S. municipal solid waste stream. All of that waste can be used as composting for your yard and or garden at home. Composting organic material is an easier and better way to add nutrients and minerals to soils and plants.
The City participates in composting organic waste in many ways:
- Christmas trees are chipped every year to make mulch for IndyPark landscaping.
- Leaves collected around the city are sent to South Side Composting and can be used by any Marion county resident for personal use. (2561 Kentucky Ave, 317-247-6808)
